1776 Feb. 27th Tories were defeated by Wigs at Moores Creek Bridge, first battle of the Revolution in North Carolina. Apr. 12th Provincal Congress at Halifax authorized North Carolina delegates in Continental Congress to "concur in independency." This was the firs action of this kind by any state. Aug. 2nd National Declaration of Independence was signed by North Carolina delegates ---William Hooper, Joseph Hewes, and John Penn. Dec. 18th Provincial Congress at Halifax adopted Bill of Rights and Constitution. Richard Caswell was chosen Governor.
