Thomas P was only two years old when his Mother listed Head Of Household in 1810.It is currently believed that the three brothers William, Robert Berry Jr., and Thomas Berry went searching for land around 1807/08 in Georgia or Tennessee. They had a sister Mary Camp who had removed to Georgia around 1783.Thomas Berry's wife Sarah Cate was living with her sister in one of Robert Berry's homes. Most likely it was the old Patrick Rutherford home. Robert acquired this property in 1787 when Patrick died . Thomas Berry was apparently killed by Indians in Tennessee while searching for land. William never did come back home or at least to stay. When Robert wrote his will in 1812 he left only 5 pounds to William. In my opinion Robert was angry at his son William but not his daughter in law, Hannah. Hannah gave birth to a daughter Elizabeth Berry in 1812 but the father was John Berry and not William. After Robert Died It is thought that Hannah and her children moved in with Hannah's brother John Cate, Sarah had married John Pigg on December 11th 1815 and removed to Tennessee. Thomas Person Berry must have been given a good education. In 1830 I think Elizabeth and her mother were living with Henry Berry and Thomas Person Berry was not there. On September 28 1831 Thomas Person Berry and Sarah Lunsford Daughter of William and Edy Brinkley Cozart Lunsford were married. Thomas Person Berry Marriage Bond. On the 30th of June in 1832 Thomas Person Berry's half sister Elizabeth Berry married Theodrick Franklin and Thomas was their bondsman. THEODRICK FRANKLIN BOND On November 23, 1830 William and Person Berry paid $500 to their Uncle Henry Berry for 100 acres of land. DEED BOOK 24 PAGE 226 This is probably where Thomas was living when the 1830 census was taken. I have to believe William was Thomas Person Berry's brother. William was listed in the 1830 Orange County N.C. Census but was not in Orange County when the 1840 Census was taken. William must have decided to leave Orange County or money was tight and times were hard, because on September 19th 1833 William and Person Berry sold the same 100 acre tract to Father and son, Samuel and Felix Wilson for $450. DEED BOOK 25 PAGE 431 Notice that the Deed was signed by Charles Wilson who was Felix Wilson's brother and Robert C Berry. Robert C Berry was the Robert Berry who was listed in the 1820/30/40 Census and is believed to be JOSHUA BERRY'S SON

Thomas Person Berry was 28 years old when his first son was born in 1836,

Sarah was 25 years old. They named their first son William H Berry. William was for Thomas P. Berry's father and I think H was for Henry who was more of a father to Thomas than his own father was. The Second son was born two years later in 1838. He was named Willie in honor if Sarah's Father William Lunsford. John Robert Berry was born on September 25th 1842 and was named for his great grandfather John Cate and his great grandfather Robert Berry. Thomas Person and Sarah Lunsford Berry named their fourth son James P. Berry for Sarah's grandfather James Cozart. James Cozart was married to Sarah Brinkley. James P. Berry was born in 1845.

There was a huge amount of information to be gathered from the 1850 Orange County North Carolina Census. Nearly all of the neighbors on both sides of Thomas Person Berry were related to him or his wife by blood or by marriage. Joshua Berry's family was to the west of where Thomas lived. Things must have been very good in the early 1850's but Uncle Henry Berry died in 1855 and then the great world-wide flu epidemic hit and Hannah died in 1858. Lewis Berry Joshua's son died at the same time. William H Berry Thomas P. Berry's oldest son was married in 1857 and died in 1858 from the flu. Elizabeth Franklin's husband Theodrick also died that same year from the flu in Georgia.

After Sarah Berry died on December 27th, 1870 Thomas married for the second time to Lucy Brown who was a close neighbor and younger than Thomas P. Berry. They were married on August 24th, 1871. This Union produced five more children for Thomas Person Berry. (VIEW MARRIAGE LICENSE)

Lucy Brown Berry (View Headstone) died from complications] resulting from childbirth I am sure, on January 12, 1881. This was less than a month from the time Dan Berry was born. Dan Berry was known by my mother as Uncle Dan.

On December 3, 1883 Thomas Person Berry married his third wife Elizabeth Peed Bowles. ( View Marriage License) Thomas was only married to Elizabeth for five months. He died on April 30, 1884.
